Selling a house is much like advertising of a product anybody would like to sell.
Before you plan to sell your house, you should take some steps to make it better so that you can get the best value of your home.
Forget about the renovation and decoration plans, all you need to do is, keep certain things in mind and it can work.

The first impression is the last impression. The first impression that your house projects, is extremely important. This is the point where you can lure your buyer.
So, make sure that your house looks good from outside.
If it is not attractive from outside, no body will be interested to see it from inside.

Ideally you can start from cleaning your windows and trimming your shrubbery.
Flowers in your garden can do wonders. Take care of your lawn. If it is appealing, there are very good chances that a customer will be interested in buying your house.
Moreover there are certain areas in your house that are not taken care regularly but any buyer will surely see them. Areas like your garage should be clean and its door should open smoothly.

You can throw all the things away that are not used but exist in your garage.
Recycle all extra cans and old magazine from there.
Do not forget to clean the swimming pool. A dirty pool creates a very bad impression.
Clean your yard as well.

When it comes to exterior side of your house, you should at least paint the sides that face the street.
Your front view of house should not show any broken window.
You can spend some paint on painting your fence.

Keep these small things in mind while you plan to sell your house, we are sure you will get better results.

Little did Brian Souter imagine that when he started Stagecoach with his sister Ann, it would grow to become one of the biggest transport companies in the world.

Brian Souter’s Childhood

Brian’s early days at school did not go as well as expected. Almost expelled for poor academic performance, Brian changed his timetable to include economics and accounts and went from being the class dunce, to easily passing his exams, and earning the dux prize in economics and accounts.

Brian continued to develop his talent for economics and accounting at the University of Strathclyde, completing a joint accounting and economics course in only two years, before sailing through his chartered accounting exams as well. A bright future as a chartered accountant lay before him, but that’s not exactly how things turned out.

Early Career

As soon as he was 18, Brian started as a trainee bus conductor with Alexander’s Bus Company, working full time and studying in his spare time. Spending every spare moment from University working on the buses, Brian eventually joined accounting firm Arthur Andersen after graduation.

In the early 1980’s there were no long distance bus services across Scotland, so the opportunity to offer a new low-cost bus service was wide open. Persuading his sister Ann and her husband Robin to buy a bus for school runs, and using redundancy money from his father, they bought two coaches and Stagecoach Group’s history began.

Their new services caught the imagination of the traveling public and their distinctive orange, red and blue colour scheme allowed them to stand out from the crowd and the line, ensuring the brand had an immediate impact.

The Stagecoach Growth Plan

Brian was the strategist behind the growth plan that would see Stagecoach extending to the whole of the UK and internationally. One of the first services launched was Magicbus, which operated in Glasgow, offering extremely cheap fares using old London Routemaster buses staffed with conductors.

Whilst organic revenue growth was impressive, when Brian recognised the economies of scale involved, he took Stagecoach down the path of acquisitions, investing in numerous local bus companies throughout the UK. Expansion continued, and in the 1990’s Stagecoach bought additional bus operations in Scotland, Newcastle and London to Manchester.

Stagecoach and the London Stock Exchange

In 1993, only 13 years after formation, Stagecoach was one of the leading British transport companies and valued at 134 million pounds. Brian decided it was time to float the company on the London Stock Exchange, to access more capital for new opportunities in the buses and train sectors.

Brian and his team knew much about the bus industry, but had limited knowledge of the train business. Not one to rush into blind, Brian decided to test a new service from Scotland to London under the name of the Stagecoach and rail passengers responded well to the pilot.

Stagecoach Expands Internationally

It was time for Stagecoach to develop their interests abroad and the company has since expanded its presence in Australia and New Zealand, with buses and ferries in Hong Kong and the purchase of Citybus. Stagecoach also bought Coach USA, the largest bus and transportation in America and a major player in Canada.

Buses are Brian‘s great passion of and Stagecoach has continued to expand its bus service in the UK over the years. For example, Megabus now serves 30 cities across the country and today the Stagecoach Group has a turnover of over £2 billion and makes annual profits of over £250 million.

Brian Souter’s Awards

Over the years Brian has received numerous honours and awards including Businessman of the Year, the Scottish Business Achievement Award, and the Scottish Entrepreneur Award, not to mention the Special Recognition Award he received in 2008 at the UK Bus Awards for his contribution to the bus industry.

He has accepted honorary degrees from the University of Strathclyde and the University of Abertay. As a team player however, the awards he is most proud of are those given to the Stagecoach Group. These include winning the UK Bus Operator of the Year awards twice, and being rated one of the Top 10 Most Admired Companies of 2008 by Management Today.

In June 2010, a panel of European transport journalists awarded Brian a prestigious Talent in Mobility Award in recognition of his career in public transportation. At the ceremony in Paris, he was hailed by the judges for innovation and sustainability.
